Għajnsielem's Holy Week Installation: A Community Spiritual Experience
Għajnsielem is hosting "The Cross, Jesus and You"—a spiritual installation at the Our Lady of Loreto church square during Holy Week. This is the fifth edition of the community-led project, which has become a notable attraction for residents across Malta and Gozo seeking a meaningful Lenten experience.
What to Expect
The installation features a central cross as the focal point, with a traditional Via Crucis circuit for visitors. The project incorporates both traditional devotional practices and contemporary elements designed to engage participants of different ages and backgrounds.
This year, accessibility has been prioritized, with arrangements made for visitors with mobility considerations. Evening sessions are available throughout Holy Week, offering guided experiences for those interested in more immersive participation.
About the Project
The installation is entirely volunteer-driven, organized by local community groups including the Għajnsielem Decorations Association and the Għajnsielem Dramatic Group. The project operates without admission charges, supported by community donations and local council assistance.
The initiative reflects efforts by smaller parishes in Malta to create sustainable spiritual programming that connects with contemporary audiences while maintaining traditional devotional practices.
