Malta's Artistic Swimmers Return from Poland with Three International Medals
Malta's young artistic swimmers have delivered credible results on the international stage, returning from Poland with three medals from the Spring Harmony International Meet in Łódź held March 6-8. Synchro Knights, Malta's primary competitive artistic swimming club, fielded 21 athletes at the inaugural competition.
The Results
The 12 & Under team captured second place in the Free Routine category. The 13-15 age group earned bronze. Emily Ruggier achieved second place in the Junior Solo Technical category, competing under World Aquatics regulations that combine mandatory movements with artistic expression.
Looking Ahead
The medals arrive three weeks before the Aquatic Sports Association's April National Championships in Victoria (April 8-12), followed by the Little Waves Cup international event (May 16-17).
Claire Blake, the club president, emphasized that months of dedicated training underpinned the Poland routines. "This international competition provided valuable feedback and experience for our athletes," Blake stated in post-competition remarks.
The delegation was coordinated by Laura Marquez Urrego (artistic and technical preparation), Hailey Ellul and Alessia Cardona Taliana (coaching), Valentina Marchi (athlete and technical controller), and Jeremy Farrugia (competition judge). The competition was organized by the Harmonia Foundation with coordination by Monika Szczesniak.
For spectators on the island interested in witnessing high-level artistic swimming, the national championships in Victoria offer an accessible opportunity to see both local and international competitors performing at competitive standards.
